Saylor Rhea’s Story

Once upon a time, a tiny, precious, miracle girl was born and captures the hearts of all who know her. Her story and journey has inspired the utmost strength and hope.

Her journey began long before she took her first breath, nestled within the safety of her mother's womb. During the tender moments of her development, God had plans bigger than anything we expected. In the hushed silence of anticipation, Saylor was born three months early, and took her first breath at 26 weeks. Not only was she small with premature lungs but she was also born with a rare condition called Amniotic Band Syndrome. The syndrome was brought on by her mother’s amniotic sac breaking 19 weeks into her pregnancy. Once her water broke, the amniotic sac developed small, stringlike tissues that all four of Saylor’s limbs would get wound up in; ultimately causing permanent damage to her limbs, as well as the amputation of her left foot. All of this happening during the pregnancy, unbeknownst to her parents or to the doctors. It was only discovered at birth that Saylor had the condition, as well as the amputated foot. After spending 73 long and grueling days in the NICU, Saylor was finally released to go home. For this precious child, born with a spirit as resilient as the stars, possessed a strength that knew no bounds.

Though she carries the scars of her journey, she is a living testament to the power of love, prayer, hope and unwavering faith. With each passing day, she continues to blossom like a flower in the sun and brings hope and joy to those around her. For she was not defined by what she had lost, but by the extraordinary strength and light that she possesses with each and every day.

Our sweet Rhea of sunshine.
